THE BUDDY SYSTEM
Our aim is to create a central register of able-bodied anglers who are willing to help anglers less able/disabled to get back into fishing and rediscover their passion for angling.
If you’d like to volunteer to be an angling buddy, please go to the Reels on Wheels Forum and put your name/area in the “Buddies Available” section.
If you’re a less able/disabled angler who’d like a buddy to fish with, please go to the Forum and leave your name/area in the “Buddies Wanted” section.
If you’re not on the internet, you can phone us and we’ll put your name/area in there for you and act as go-betweens! We’ll also send you out a list of potential buddies in your region, whom you can contact.
Our aim is to be able to pair up as many anglers as possible so that nothing stands in the way of our passion for angling.
The rest is up to you—let’s go fishing!

Hi,
I was listening to the interview today on the Keith’s show and I think it is a really good idea. I would like to be part of it. I am a very keen fisherman but I do not have any transport to go fishing with. I would be more then happy to help anybody with learning how to fish and take them fishing, if there is transport to go in. I am a 50 year old diabetic and asmatic sufferer, but I have no mobilty problems and could help carry someones gear to their swim’s and help get them set up. I want to do this not only to help other people but I want help myself to get the chance to do some fishing myself. Because I don’t have any transport I can’t go fishing, I am not able to carry my stuff on trains or buses. I would like to be someone’s buddy or someone to be my buddy and get me back into fishing. I haven’t really done any fishing since I lost my fishing friend who moved away four years ago. The nearest thing I get to fishing these days is Keith’s show at the weekends, I really miss fishing.
I work as a part time teacher, I only teach adults and some with disabilities, so I have experience of working with people. I live in London so without transport I can’t get to do any fishing, I want this to work both ways I help someone and they help me. I hope you can understand that I want to help someone like myself that wants to do some fishing but has no one to go with, and you don’t think that I am just into this for myself, I see this as we all can only gain from it.
I really hope this works for you as I think it is a very good idea, I wish you all the luck and hope you have great success with it. If you think I can be of help then please get in touch. My email: Nolan101@hotmail.com
Yours
John Nolan

Fingers crossed for you,

This is such a good idea, congratulations ! I had a stroke 10 years ago and lost my balance - spent a few months in a wheelchair and fortunately recovered most of the ability I’d lost.
I started flyfishing 5 years ago, and it improved my recovery actually. However, at first when I went fishing with friends they were helpful enough to choose spots that i could get to easily.
Good buddies

Thanks very much for your comment, Herve. I am so pleased that you are able to fish and recovered so well from your stroke.
I used to fish in Spain with a couple of fellows from Lyon - but they were catfish addicts, and often fished the Saone!

My carp site…
I opted to fish my baits quite close, within thirty yards of the bank in fact, in the hope that the carp would be patrolling the marginal shelf/ slope. However we were fishing as a team, so Steve tried to cover the other options by fishing his baits de…
